5 ways to get into the Christmas spirit

Get yourself and your home ready for the Christmas season.

As we enter the month of December we are nearing Christmas. Celebrated on the 25th, this yearly Christian event celebrates the life of Jesus Christ. For many it is chance to gather the family together and to exchange presents. But how can you get yourself into the Christmas spirit?

1. ‘Deck the halls with boughs of holly’.

The lyrics to this popular Christmas tune are probably the first place you want to start. Decorate your home with a Christmas tree. Add the fairy lights. Spray your windows with fake snow. Place a Christmas wreath on the door. Hang your stockings ready for the arrival of Father Christmas. And then don’t forget the holly for your hall! Create a fun festive environment and you will quickly be in the mood.

2. Turn on the Christmas tunes.

Every year the golden Christmas tunes are played on repeat. Whether it is Jingle Bells, Wham or some more traditional carols, compile a play list but don’t start listening too early otherwise you will soon be bored.

3. Add some festive smells.

Get your senses in the mood with some festive smells. Popular ones are pine trees, mince pies and mulled wine but it may not be that easy to lay your hands on these to opt for some homemade garlands of dried orange slices and cinnamon sticks to place around your home or some scented candles oozing cinnamon, orange, and nutmeg.

4. Go carol singing.

Carol singing is a popular Western activity. Groups of singers go from door to door singing Christmas carols often in return for a donation to charity or a small festive treat such as a mince pie. Regardless of you receive anything in return this could be a great way to get to know your neighbours and community whether you live in a condominium or compound in Jakarta.

5. Put on a film marathon.

If you want to entertain your friends for Christmas but don’t fancy throwing a party then consider having a movie night instead. Many of us have our favourite Christmas themed films whether that is Home Alone, Elf, Love Actually or the Polar Express and is a great way to get into the Christmas spirit.
