Protect your soft furnishings from sun damage with these top tips.
Indonesia is blessed with approximately eight hours of sunshine most days. The sun brings warm weather and conditions that some countries could only ever dream of. There is no need to heat your home as there would be in America or the UK, plus it is pretty straightforward to dress for the tropics.
However, the blazing sunshine can damage your new on trend green sofa by bleaching the fabric. The UV rays in natural light can also fade any rugs, curtains, and even wood. In order to protect your home or your rented property’s furniture from sun damage, consider these three different options.
1. Fit window dressings.
Used as a form of privacy, window dressings can also be used to block out the sunlight. Many opt for black out varieties in order to help them sleep better at night, but during the day they provide the perfect deterrent from heat and sun damage. You will need a thick pair of curtains or ones with black out qualities in order to achieve this. Draw the curtains or pull the blinds when you are out, however one downside is that you are unlikely to want to do this when you are at home during the day.
2. Protect the windows.
Some windows come with an already installed tint that prevents the sun’s UV rays coming in but does not distort the view from inside. Should replacing the windows not be an option, then opt for applying some window film. This allows you to keep the curtains open without damaging the interior of your home. Window films can be purchased at most home improvement stores but you will need a bit of a skill to apply it. Alternatively call on a professional to do the work for you.
3. Reorganise your home.
Is there another place to put your sofa that means it will not be flooded by the sun? A quick reorganisation may be the right solution, and one that does not involve any expenditure. Watch where the sun reaches as different parts of the day in order to move your soft furnishings accordingly. If you do not have room to move items then use a throw to help protect your sofa.
