Conwood: first to export affordable housing

For the first time ever Indonesia exports an affordable house that can be built in 7 days.

There is a real thirst for affordable housing across the world. PT Conwood Indonesia, part of one of Thailand’s largest cement producers Siam City Cement Group, have risen to the challenge to fulfilling this demand. They have become the first company in Indonesia to export an ‘affordable house’.

Last week a container carrying affordable houses made in Indonesia started its journey to Bangladesh. This historic event was inaugurated by Bachrul Chairi (head of BAPPEBTI), Tuti Prahastuti (director of national export development of the Ministry of Trade), Arifin (head of housing & settlement of DKI Jakarta Provincial Government) and Derek Williamson (president director of PT Conwood Indonesia) on 15 June 2017 at the Conwood factory in Jababeka Industrial estate, Cikarang.

Conwood products are designed to be easy and fast to install. They also display qualities that are not inferior to natural wood. However unlike some wood materials, Conwood products have various advantages. This includes being fire resistant, waterproof, weather-resistant, termite free, durable, environmentally friendly, not to mention they are easy to install. The Conwood House is an affordable house that can be built in seven days. It is considered to be a good solution to accelerating the construction of affordable housing.

The company will continue to develop and produce wood replacement materials to meet the needs of consumers. It is expected that Conwood products will contribute significantly to reducing the cutting down of the trees and hopes to inspire others to support the environmental development efforts in the future.

“Today is an important day for us. In addition to the inauguration of the house exports, Conwood also signed the MOU with our partner PT Zaneterra for the construction of 4,000 affordable houses in Indonesia”, said Derek Williamson, president director PT Conwood Indonesia.

Housing is a basic human need. Even President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo is currently running a program to build one million homes for Indonesians in various regions in Indonesia. Conwood house are an attractive choice as they are easy to build and also easy to ship.

“A Conwood house is 36 square metres with price of around IDR 2,4 million per square metre or IDR 86 million per unit”, said Rizki Kresno, commercial director PT Conwood Indonesia.

Conwood houses are 100 percent free of asbestos. Having carried out first safety tests Conwood have proved that they do not propagate fire. They also display strength meeting government regulations. Finally they are shipped in a way that ensures that it arrives in a guaranteed good condition.
