Embrace one of these 2017 exciting tile trends in your home.
Interior design is big business. There are many companies on the market offering a wide range of styles to suit your personality and tastes. We are spoilt for choice to keep up with the latest trends. Whether you decide to wallpaper your home or give your home a quick spruce up with a new set of tiles. Replacing the tiles is one way to breathe new life into your kitchen or bathroom without having to consider a complete overhaul. (For other ideas on how to change the look of your kitchen check out our online blog here). This year there have been a number of newcomers onto the tile scene.
1. Perk up your room with a pattern.
Tiles that are adorned with patterns are often reminiscent of the Mediterranean. They bring brightness to a room and create softness especially in a kitchen where there are lots of straight lines. Don’t overdo the patterned look though as it will create a very different look. Just opt for one wall or space for a real impact.
2. Shy away from a traditional layout.
Once upon a time tiles were white and if they weren’t square they could be placed in either a horizontal or vertical fashion. Today tiles don’t just need to serve a practical purpose of protection from water but provide an aesthetic look too. So why not consider fitting your tiles in a more exciting layout such as a herringbone. The beauty of this is that you can really jazz up a cheaper plain tile without having to splash out on an expensive one.
3. Pick a bright colour.
Brick tiles have become increasingly common. White grouting with grey grouting is one combination that is a popular choice. But if you want to make your home stand out then pick a brick tile in a bright colour. Canary yellow to brighten a room or a deep turquoise to create a bit of class. Anything goes but if you are going bold it is wise to stick with one colour and to pick a grout a similar colour to the tile.
4. Consider an unusual shaped tile.
Some of the options so far are only for the brave. If you aren’t feeling that bold or are worried that the style may not suit a wide range of prospective tenants and purchasers, then choose a tile that has an interesting shape. There are some tiles on the market that come in a hexagon or octagon shape and this is one way to bring your room onto trend without having to go to bold. That way you can play it safe with the colour, particularly wise if you are worried about the tiles matching the rest of your room, but the excitement will be drawn to the shape of the tile instead. Don’t forget to emphasise the shape of the tile with a contrasting colour grout otherwise it will get lost.
